The Premier League was incredible this season. With Manchester City retaining the title with 98 points and Liverpool getting the highest ever points total for the runners up with 97 points. There was even a surprise further down the league with newly promoted Wolves getting the last Europa League place over a number of other more established clubs. Will Man City become the first side since Man United between 2007 and 2009 to win the title three years in a row?
While Arsenal, Spurs, Man United and Chelsea can all point to severe injury problems throughout the season, the real reason they failed to challenge was that their squads were not good enough. Either in terms of their overall first team quality, like United and Arsenal, or their squad depth, like Spurs and Chelsea, they do not match up to City or Liverpool. Man United and Spurs are both expected to spend on players this summer in order to bridge the gap, but will it be enough to challenge the incredible squads that City and Liverpool have built?
